Hey all, Im looking to install a Faria tach for my outboard. I purchased the Evinrude wiring harness that plugs right into the harness plug off of my throttle box. Easy enough right? What concerns me is that the Faria instructions say for an 88 and 112 hp a voltage regulator is recommended. It also says a system check tach or 2" gauge is REQUIRED.

It charges fine with a new rectifier, but if run at over 2500 rpm for any period of time it begins to overheat the rectifier and it begins to go up to as much as 17-18v and will eventually melt the rectifier. Hi everyone. I have a late 80s 88hp Evinrude SPL mounted on an OLD 15' Arrow Glass tri-hull fishing boat. I installed a tach and speedo and am a little disapointed with the readings. I am just barely getting 5000 rpms, if that, at WOT. And aren't even hitting 30mph (Its more like 25-28).E88TSLER SPL. It's a good idea to have a temperature gauge because it gives you a way of monitoring the effectiveness of the cooling system, rather than depending on the warning horn, which often comes too late or at an inconvenient time. Each gauge requires its own special variable resistor sender and wire.
